Wheat here symbolizes the Goddess Demeter, who strongly encompasses Yin energy and whose mythology represents the many aspects of the underworld journey of healing; in this context Persephone is taken to be another aspect of Demeter, and their story is the narrative of the many phases of growth alongside the trials met with in the landscape of the unconscious mind.

The New Moon at 26 degrees Pisces will be exact at 9:11 A.M. ET on March 17th.

The Sabian symbol for 26 degrees Pisces is:

A new moon that divides its influences

Which Rudhyar has modified to read:

Watching the very thin moon crescent appearing at sunset, different people realize that the time has come to go ahead with their different projects.

This is a very clear symbol that heralds the fertility of spring, action and initiation of personal projects ahead. During this Moon, three planets are in Aries, while the Sun and Moon are in a conjunction with Chiron in Pisces. A helpful influence is extended from Jupiter by trine to the luminaries (Sun + Moon), while a frustrated inner warrior (shown by a square to the luminaries/Chiron from Mars) still has to make peace with the closing yin energies of the season.

Seasonal shifts always bring with them great shifts in energy and disposition. As the New Moon will be closely followed by the Sun’s entrance into the sign of Aries, marking the spring equinox, we find ourselves gearing up for this dramatic change from the diffusing, Yin energies of Pisces to the highly individualized and mobilized energies of Aries. If we are going by astrological time, this is our New Year, whereupon a very concrete new cycle is begun that will take us into the height of Summer and the contracting and closing of next Fall and Winter.

So the question is: how do we move gracefully on the journey from the height of Yin through to the height of Yang energies? The personal projects we will undertake as a result of the increase in light and energy are a force of differentiation and individualization that contribute to making us unique from the rest of the collective. Yang energy has as its motive a movement towards expressing individual purpose and the solar, egoic force that lends a hand to our journeys of projection out into the social, creative and expansive spheres of life. The promise of this departure from the subtle waters of Pisces should be embraced fully, but not without a sufficient clearing of any unattended/destructive Yin patterns of behaviour that Pisces season and Chiron both are urging us to be made aware of.

Yin energy is receptive and inward moving. It takes what is mobile and unformed and creates density from it. The creative process is a beautiful merging of Yin and Yang energies, as ideas and inspiration are brought down to Earth and channelled to create compositions, objects of beauty, or symbols of the human experience for all to appreciate (all very Mercurial activities and beautifully aligned with Mercury being the hermaphrodite [symbolically assuming equal Yin/Yang] of planetary energies). Of course, the creation of children, the ultimate forms of creative expression, occurs through this same process by way of the womb absorbing male vitality and passion and creating from it the seed whereby new life can grow.

However, Yin is also the energy of death. Obviously all that is born will die (i.e. will be transmuted into other forms) and so in giving life, Yin also promises that life will be taken away. It moves what is no longer guided by the energy of spirit into the process of decomposition and rebirth. The Yin aspect of ourselves is the one that keeps us bound to Earth for sustenance, nourishment and grounding, and the dark aspects of the Earth mother are all alluding not only to the life-death dualism of life itself but also to the processes of psychic and spiritual rebirth achieved by moving through the swallowing, undifferentiated and heavy nature of the unconscious, where our Yin emotions and habits lay. Both Yin and Yang need to be purified in order to function properly, and to look to these purification processes, we can study the relationship between the last and first signs of the zodiac: Pisces and Aries.

As the most Yin sign of the zodiac, Pisces carries the energy of emotional purification. Its main theme is release of egoic attachments in order to merge into the divine nature of the soul through the crucifixion of the selfish elements of the self. Pisces urges us to understand the interconnected nature of all life, and to explore the deeper emotional realms of the psyche, as all the archetypal guides and processes of the soul’s rebirth live there. Taking on this process by way of attachment, where we become dramatically and obsessively preoccupied with the messages and meaning of our emotional reactions, polarizes us into our Yin nature and interrupts the process of individuation taken on by standing united with the shadow, rather than being at its mercy. This is the swallowing, swelling movement of Yin energy that engorges us with a stagnant cycle of seeking Mother i.e. personal comfort at all costs, keeping us bound to intoxicants, habitual and destructive patterns of behaviour, and toxic relationships or conditions of health that stunt our personal development. This is why we must confront the dark Mother through embracing our deepest wound and releasing the negative energies that feed it in order to move forward embodying and at one with our journey through the personal underworld. The submission to and conquering of this unknown land is a long process and often goes alongside our spiritual purification rites so that we emerge recognizing the divine seed we all carry inside. This process moves us from Piscean processes of healing into the Yang process of individuation and materialized progress on the path, i.e. Aries.

The energies of Aries embody this wild and sometimes frantic desire to stand in the light of the spiritual self. Yang energy when not properly balanced by Yin is the unrefined, selfish seeking of personal fulfilment in all avenues of life. It is a destructive force in another sense because it encourages to move at a pace that does not allow for self-reflection or the appropriate processing of our emotions and experiences. Obviously the imbalance of one of these central energies creates an imbalance in the other, and we sway back and forth between the polarities of their influence until we come to what is our uniquely balanced state. This balance is made possible by the confrontation of both personal ego as well as the Yin desire to be absorbed back into the Earth for protection and relief from the struggle of personal individuation through the medium of the material world. In order to purify Yang energies, we must release the selfish egoic attachment of our worldly achievements, and move forward through a merging or surrender of our personal will to the divine will. We must act in accordance to the divine plan and in service to our fellow human beings, assisting them through whatever avenue represents our own deepest passion in order for them to also move forward on the journey of individuation.

All Water signs lead into Fire signs around the wheel, and there is a reason for this. Personal ambition must be tempered by the purification of emotional desire and the sublimation of wholly selfish aims into the recognition of one’s passions as one’s divine purpose that is in line with the cosmic and universal forces of the Earth realm. Only with an appropriately balanced measure of these dual divinely guided forces can we live in true peace and harmony with ourselves, one another, and our environment.

 Aries and Aries Rising

This New Moon falls in your twelfth house of spiritual growth and isolation, Aries. You may notice you’ve been feeling a bit less social lately, and have needed a lot of time to process your experiences and emotions. Allow this to be so, and give yourself permission to slow down. This Moon is highlighting a conjunction with the Sun + Chiron in Pisces, so if you find some old wounding surfacing in order to be more fully embraced and released, recognize that this is towards the ultimate end of liberating you further in your emotional landscape. Set your intentions for what spiritual practices you would like to bring into your life that will serve to ground you and assist you in this process of liberation. Your season is just around the corner so don’t fret too much. The time of inspiration and expression awaits only after one last push of inward focused energy.

Taurus and Taurus Rising

This New Moon falls in your eleventh house of friendship and long-term vision, Taurus. Set your intentions for what you’d like to create from your community involvement and what kind of network you’d like to develop in the energizing months to come. As Chiron, the wounded healer archetype, is being called to the surface during this Moon, you may feel as though you’re noticing more of what you don’t have around these themes of community and inspired vision rather than what you do. Be gentle with yourself if these thoughts arise and allow them to inform you of what perspectives need to be released moving forward. If the long-term future seems a bit murky right now, recognize it will again be illuminated in a different light that is stronger and burns with more clarity once some of your illusions around it are healed and released.

Gemini and Gemini Rising

This New Moon falls in your tenth house of career, life purpose and public recognition, Gemini.  Set your intentions for what you would like to create in this avenue of your life, and how you’d like to develop greater mastery in your field of work. Recognize that there will likely be some wounding or confusion around your life purpose that comes up during this time, as Chiron comes into conjunction with the Sun and Moon. Be gentle with yourself and rather than looking towards the top of your proverbial mountain wondering how you’re going to get from point A to point B, be grateful for and proud of how far you’ve come since you started applying greater focus on what comes naturally to you. Do not make any drastic or impulsive decisions at this time that are based on insecurities, worries and fears. Rest for the moment, and trust that the answers will come.

Cancer and Cancer Rising

This New Moon falls in your ninth house of long-distance travel and expansions of consciousness, Cancer. You’ve likely been craving to experience something new and exciting, and might feel called to go on an adventure. Set your intentions for how you’d like to incorporate travel or higher spiritual learning into your life, and recognize that any restlessness, dissatisfaction or wounding that is coming up around these areas is a reflection of the Chiron transit that is being highlighted at this time. The wounded healer archetype that is surfacing may make you confined or that your day-to-day experiences do not contain the transcendental energy you seek. Do not indulge these thoughts too much as they are transient in nature. Instead, be gentle with yourself, relax, and allow the inspiration to build as the seasons shift.

Leo and Leo Rising

This New Moon falls in your eighth house of endings and personal transformation, Leo. Certainly this past month has likely been intense for you. A lot of fears have come up, perhaps mainly around money, self-worth, fear of vulnerability in relationships, and all the insecurities that disconnect you from your sense of power. Although it hasn’t been much fun, you are at the end of a cycle that has prompted you to seek more resolution and healing where it was needed. Hopefully, you have let go of some thoughts, relationships, and beliefs that were not serving your highest good, and this is exactly what needs to happen in order for you to grow. As the seasons change, so will your focus, and, if you've done the inner work you were being called to do, you will feel much more liberated than you did in the past.

Virgo and Virgo Rising

This New Moon falls in your seventh house of partnerships and marriage, Virgo. As this Moon is coming into conjunction with Chiron, the wounded healer archetype, you may be feeling a lot in reaction your relationships during this time. All close friendships, business partnerships and intimate relations may feel as though they are being tested through triggering old and unresolved wounds around how you relate to others. Allow yourself to use this opportunity for release to set intentions around how you’d like your relationships to look in your life, and what your emotional needs are in order for those relationships to be as harmonious as possible.  Rather than being critical of others or feeling guilty about situations of the past, allow yourself to let go of what has not been ideal about this area of your life in order to invite new experiences to be had.

Libra and Libra Rising

This New Moon falls in your sixth house of work, health and daily ritual, Libra. Because Chiron, the archetypal wounded healer, is being triggered by this Moon, you may find your body experiencing heightened sensitivity to the foods you are consuming, as well as the circumstances you may find yourself in when it comes to your work and organizational skills. Set your intentions for what daily rituals you’d like to implement in order to protect your health and better manage your workflow. You are likely to feel imbalanced at this time, which is hard for you, but trust that by setting up stronger commitments to maintaining the health of your physical, emotional/mental and spiritual body, you will regain the state of inner peace that you so crave.

Scorpio and Scorpio Rising

This New Moon falls in your fifth house of creativity, romance and self-expression, Scorpio. Set your intentions for how you’d like to work with your strong creative energy and in what ways you’d like to take up more space in your life and be more vocal where it is needed. As Chiron’s transiting placement in this house is being triggered by this Moon, you may find yourself living some wounding around your ability to freely and openly self-express, as well as your ability to channel playful and creative energy. Instead of keeping it all to yourself, use this opportunity for release and healing by expressing your feelings to a romantic partner or to your family. While it is a part of your nature to conserve and be selective about what you share, use this time to explore being a bit more open with your thoughts and feelings. You will find the experience healing, and it will help to build your ability to trust others more easily.

Sagittarius and Sagittarius Rising

This New Moon falls in your fourth house of home life and your deepest emotional needs, Sagittarius. You are much more comfortable with adventure and expansion by nature, so this time may feel more difficult for you as you are being asked to get in touch with what is most needed for you in order to maintain sound emotional well-being. It is likely that some childhood wounds may surface at this time, or else you may find yourself sensing the need to withdraw from the demands of the outside world in order to process a feeling of loneliness or insecurity. Be mindful that what is needed most at this time is self-love. Set your intentions for what self-care practices you would like to more readily implement in the future in order to stay more balanced and closer to the vibration of self-love at all times.

Capricorn and Capricorn Rising

This New Moon falls in your third house of communication, learning and neighbourhood connections, Capricorn. Set your intentions for what you’d like to learn come spring and how you’d like your relationships with neighbours and day-to-day acquaintances to look. As Chiron, the archetypal wounded healer, is being triggered by this Moon, you may find you are confronting some sorrows or fears around speaking your truth with others, as well as perhaps feeling insecure, lonely or left out of your neighbourhood sense of community. Recognize that feeling this way is transient and instead of being hard on yourself, allow it to guide you through a process of releasing whatever thought patterns around this area of your life are bringing pain and constriction. If you feel as though you don't know enough about a particular subject that interests you, don't be hard on yourself. Transmute the frustration or pain into what will inspire you to learn more and explore your surroundings more readily.

Aquarius and Aquarius Rising

This New Moon falls in your second house of finances, resources and self-worth, Aquarius. You may find yourself feeling wounded around how much you are earning or able to earn, as well as in a state of questioning your worth whether or not it is directly tied to these materialistic considerations. Recognize that the only limit to the abundance you can attract comes from a boundary you set up for yourself. Set your intentions for how you would like your financial situation to look, and what kind of positive thought patterns will encourage that ideal to manifest. Take this opportunity to release any thoughts that reflect a scarcity mindset and to heal from generational narratives around money and abundance blocks. So much from the outside world is open to you but first it must be invited into a harmonious inner world that recognizes its innate value.

Pisces and Pisces Rising

This New Moon falls in your first house of self and self-motivated action, Pisces. We’ve come to the end of your season and, although intense, this has probably been a time of awakening to your personal authenticity and reflecting more deeply on who you truly are within when removed from any outside influences. As Chiron, the archetypal wounded healer, is being triggered during this Moon, you may find that some aspect of what you have discovered about yourself is bringing you pain, or you are mourning a loss of self as a result of a past relationship or past circumstance in which you compromised expressing how you really felt because of a fear or insecurity that it wouldn't be accepted. More than any other sign you have the ability to forgive and release the past in order to be reborn. Think of this time as a resurrection with the promise of a new dawn as the seasons change. Release the past and move on as your most authentic self.
